Our rooms

The Hippo’s Bed & Breakfast has five rooms for rent. Two on the second floor, two downstairs and one in the small cottage in the garden. The rooms are furnished in a blessed style mix of new and old, mainly from the first half of the 20th century. The beds, however, are brand new.

You will find the prices for overnight stays in each room below. Breakfast can be pre-ordered for SEK 130 per person (half price for children under 12), but if you as a guest prefer to prepare your own breakfast, that option is available in the small kitchens that each room has access to. Free Wi-Fi is of course available and if you need to borrow an iron, outdoor grill, or something you forgot to bring, it is very likely that I can help you out. All rooms also have a large selection of books that you can take home after reading.

The Hippo

With windows facing the lush garden, from this room you have a full view of my largest hippo by far, grazing on the lawn outside. The room is about 12 square meters and furnished with a double bed (160 cm), two armchairs, coffee table and chest of drawers. There are also two sloped ceiling sleeping alcoves with two single beds in each. In one sleeping alcove, we have left the insulating newspapers from the 19th century, so if you want to keep track of what happened in April 1879, you can spend the evening with pleasure on this. Here on the second floor, you share a bathroom and a toilet with The Crocodile, and you also have joint access to a kitchenette with stove, sink, fridge/freezer, microwave, and kitchen equipment.

The Crocodile

This room of approximately 15 square meters faces the quiet Södergatan. The furniture consists of a double bed (2×80 cm), two armchairs, coffee table, desk, and chest of drawers, as well as a single bed placed in a small alcove that provides a cozy feeling for children of all ages. In previously hidden attic niches, you can look out through the small windows to the west and east. The name of the room comes of course from the West African crocodile totem that adorns one of the walls. You share a bathroom and a toilet with the floor’s other room, The Hippo, and you also have shared access to the kitchenette with stove, sink, fridge/freezer, microwave, and kitchen equipment.

The Cottage

In the garden you will find the small, cosy detached cottage of approximately 15 square meters, which is surrounded by a climbing rose and a small fig tree. When you step over the threshold, you are transported straight into the 1930s, without losing any of the comforts of modernity. Here is a 120 cm bed, TV, armchair and desk. The cottage is also equipped with a small bathroom with shower, toilet and sink and a mini kitchen with microwave, fridge, sink and kitchen equipment. The walls are decorated, among other things, with a painting depicting my grandfather’s father’s, Captain Pettersson’s, canal boat that operated on Dalsland’s canal around the turn of the last century.

One floor down

Down the stairs from the guest entrance are two cosy rooms with a genuine homelike atmosphere, each approximately 12 square meters, heated by comfortable underfloor heating. Through the basement windows you have a splendid view of the gravel path outside! Here, the walls are adorned with, among other things, enlarged book covers, and you fall asleep safely under the supervision of classic Swedish authors such as Strindberg and Moa Martinson. Both rooms are furnished with a 140 cm bed, desk, two armchairs, coffee table and chest of drawers. You share a bathroom with shower, toilet, and bathtub. The two rooms also share a kitchenette with sink, fridge/freezer, microwave, and kitchen equipment.
